Carolyn Crampton
San Francisco,
CA
Artist's Profile
Born in New York, Carolyn is a well-known bay area realist artist. She received her BFA from the University of Colorado. She has been painting the San Francisco bay area since 1987.
Crampton is not striving for photographic depictions—she welcome distortions from feelings. The paintings are started directly with a brush as one would a plein air landscape.
Carolyn teaches art and design privately, through her Monet-for-a-Day program, classes in her studio, at SF City College, Bay Area Video Coalition, and Ex'pression College for Digital Arts.
Recently Crampton has been painting still lifes at home but including her pet rabbits. This started as a riff on 18th Century hunting scenes, but has continued. They add a great deal to the still life. The loving animals also remain a symbolic direct connection to her childhood.
Carolyn Crampton is the author/illustrator of "Rabbit Language or 'Are you going to eat that?' ", a humorous guide to understanding a pet rabbit, and is currently illustrating "Dumbunny", a children's book written by M.A. Wolf.
